Combler les écarts dans la prestation de soins chez les jeunes adultes : initiative d’apprentissage en ligne collaborative pour les infirmières en oncologie
Abstract
Contexte : L’incidence mondiale du cancer chez les jeunes adultes âgés de 18 à 39 ans est considérablement à la hausse. Chez les personnes de ce groupe d’âge, le cancer apporte des complications toutes particulières qui affectent bien des dimensions de la vie (études, carrière, situation financière, etc.). Les jeunes adultes, bien que souhaitant obtenir du soutien psychologique, hésitent souvent à s’ouvrir aux infirmières. Conséquemment, ils risquent ainsi de ne pas se sentir compris, et leurs besoins complexes pourraient ne pas être satisfaits.
Objectifs : Cet article décrit la mise sur pied collaborative d’une formation en ligne pour infirmières qui vise à accroître leur sensibilisation et leurs connaissances à l’égard des jeunes adultes atteints d’un cancer hématologique, de même qu’à améliorer le soutien qu’elles leur apportent.
Méthodes : Une équipe multidisciplinaire s’est appuyée sur la transcription de propos tenus lors d’ateliers de con-conception, sur un examen de la littérature, et sur des baladodiffusions et d’autres ressources de la Société de leucémie et lymphome du Canada (SLLC) pour concevoir trois modules d’apprentissage sur les jeunes adultes, leurs problèmes psychosociaux et la prestation efficace de soutien. On a combiné des approches pédagogiques s’inspirant de la théorie de l’apprentissage des adultes pour offrir une expérience d’apprentissage complète et stimulante.
Constats : L’initiative collaborative de formation en ligne constitue une expérience pédagogique adaptée pour les infirmières qui soignent de jeunes adultes aux besoins et problèmes singuliers. L’initiative était inédite puisqu’elle a fait appel à un patient-partenaire et à des organismes communautaires pour co-concevoir, mettre sur pied et évaluer le contenu et la structure de la formation. L’évaluation préliminaire met en lumière le grand potentiel du programme pour accroître la sensibilisation des infirmières concernant la satisfaction des besoins psychosociaux propres aux jeunes adultes.
